Tomato Rasam is a traditional south Indian rice recipe. It is also called "chaaru" in Telugu. It's a perfect combination to had with rice. It's a compulsory item in any south Indian meals or thali. There are various ways to prepare rasam but it's a very easiest way and tastiest way to prepare it.

TOMATO RASAM / TOMATO CHAARU
INGREDIENTS:
Oil - 3 tbsp
Bengal gram - 1/2 tsp
Black gram - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Fresh curry leaves - few
Onion [chopped] - 1 [medium size]
Tomatoes [chopped] - 2
Green chili peppers - 2 [slit lengthwise]
Ginger garlic paste - 1/4 tsp
Salt - 2 tsp
Water - 1 liter
Rasam powder - 1 tsp
Tamarind - small lemon size
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Coriander leaves - few
METHOD:
1. Heat 3 tbsp oil in a saucepan. Add 1/2 tsp bengal gram, 1/2 tsp black gram, 1/4 tsp mustard seeds and saute for a while.
2. Add few fresh curry leaves, 1 medium onion chopped, 2 tomatoes chopped, 2 green chili peppers and saute for a while.
3. Add 1/4 tsp ginger garlic paste, 2 tsp salt and cook it until tomato pieces get cooked on medium flame.
4. Now add 1 liter water, 1 tsp rasam powder, small lemon sized tamarind, 1/4 tsp turmeric and boil it for 5 minutes on medium flame.
5. Garnish with few fresh coriander leaves. Your delicious tomato soup for rice is ready to serve.
NOTE: Adjust the salt according to your taste. If you want this more tangy please add lemon juice at the end.
